Rules and odds.
Version 1, Season 1. Odds and points do not change inside a season.
Odds per opened cache
The tier is rolled from the first four bytes of the find hash (mod 10,000) against these cut-offs, rarest first. The hash and the seed behind it can be checked by anyone once the hour is over.
Points
- Common find+10
- Uncommon find+25
- Rare find+60
- Exceptional find+200
- Family set completed (all five forms)+150
- Came second to a cache+3
- Day streak: +10% per consecutive day with a find, up to x1.5.
- Daily limit: 25 finds per wallet per UTC day. Finds 1 to 10 score in full, 11 to 20 at half, 21 to 25 at a quarter.
- Season score: the sum of your best 3 days between 2026-10-01 and 2026-12-31.
- Snapshot: hunters at 60+ season points, top 2,000, taken shortly before launch with its Merkle root published.
The lock
- Opens after 20 seconds of fixes inside 15 m of the cache, at ±25 m accuracy or better, at least eight of them.
- Restarts on a jump faster than 3 m/s, on a gap of more than 7 seconds, or when the spread of fixes is wider than 14 m.
- Refuses a series tighter than 0.15 m (real GPS never stands perfectly still), and a trip from your last find faster than 14 m/s.
- Repeated jumps pause opening for the wallet for an hour. Wins are checked on the server only; the phone never decides.
What we store
Kept
- Your wallet address, the finds it opened, points and days.
- For each find: the cache's block (geohash, about 150 m) and its position rounded to three decimals, so the find can be re-checked.
- An X handle, only if you link one (it guards the snapshot against duplicate entries).
- A random device id in a cookie, to count phones for daily limits and the live counters.
Never kept
- Your position. Each fix is used to answer one ping and dropped. Your last fix sits in your own signed cookie for 10 minutes to measure walking speed, and nowhere else.
- Email, phone number, name, password. We never ask for them.
- The exact point of a cache. It is derived from a path segment and a server key when needed.
What is promised, and what is not
- The game is free to play, before and after launch.
- Odds and points stay fixed for the season.
- Every hour's seed is committed before it starts and published after it ends.
- The snapshot root is published before launch.
- Any return or profit from $BEEP. We do not advise buying it.
- Any money value for finds. Before launch they have none.
- That a cache will be near you at every moment: caches follow people who walk.
Questions
Do I need $BEEP to play?
No. The detector is free before launch and after it. The token matters for the post-launch weekly pool and the mark, never for opening caches.
Why can't I see a map?
There is none, anywhere. A map makes spoofing a tap away, turns a search into a route and costs money per view. The detector costs nothing and makes you walk.
My GPS says ±40 m. Can I open a cache?
Not until it tightens. The lock reads fixes at ±25 m or better. Step away from tall walls, out from under trees, and wait a few seconds.
Someone else got it first.
First to finish the lock takes the cache. If you were inside the radius when it went, you get 3 points once for that cache.
Does it drain my battery?
Less than a map app. The screen redraws 30 times a second while searching, stops when the tab is hidden, and only the find moment runs at full rate.
Can I play at night?
Yes, but caches then land only on lit paths and pedestrian streets (local solar 21:00 to 6:00).
Where do caches come from?
The server places them on walkable OpenStreetMap ways near people who are out walking. Where nobody walks, nothing spawns.
